Job Description:
- The Assistant Branch Accountant supports the Branch Accountant in managing the branch's financial and accounting operations.
- The role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial record-keeping, processing transactions, reconciling accounts, monitoring cash collections, supporting inventory accounting, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports.
- The Assistant Branch Accountant ensures compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements while maintaining the integrity of the branch's financial records.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining accurate accounting records for all branch transactions.
- Process daily sales, receipts, payments, and journal entries in the accounting system.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile cash collections, POS transactions, and bank deposits.
- Verify and post invoices, receipts, and payment vouchers.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial reports and branch performance reports.
- Support inventory accounting by reconciling stock movements with inventory records.
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding customer payments.
- Process supplier invoices and assist with accounts payable activities.
- Maintain the branch petty cash and ensure proper documentation of all expenses.
- Assist with payroll-related documentation and staff expense reimbursements where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and accounting procedures.
- Prepare supporting schedules for statutory audits and internal audits.
- File and maintain financial documents in an organized and secure manner.
- Participate in stock counts and periodic inventory verification exercises.
- Report discrepancies, irregularities, or financial risks promptly to the Branch Accountant.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Perform other accounting and finance duties assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in retail and consumer electronics.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience using ERP/accounting software (e.g., Odoo, SAP, Oracle, Sage, or Microsoft Dynamics) is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Membership or progress toward ICAN, ACCA, or ANAN is an added advantage.
- Female preferably (for gender balance).
