Job Description:
- The Finance Officer is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day financial and accounting operations of the organization, ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded, processed, and reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), international financial reporting standards (IFRS), and the organization's internal financial policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of an organization, including managing accounts payable and receivable, processing invoices, tracking investments, and maintaining accurate financial records and ledgers.
- They monitor cash flow and liquidity, ensuring that funds are available for operational needs and identifying discrepancies or financial risks.
- Preparing financial statements, reports, and budgets that provide insights into the organization’s financial performance. Finance officers conduct financial analysis and forecasting, evaluating trends, assessing risks, and supporting decision-making processes for management and executives.
- Ensure that all financial activities comply with regulatory standards, internal policies, and statutory requirements. They guide management toward higher standards of corporate governance, integrating financial risks with planning, and maintaining transparency for stakeholders and investors.
- Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance and support, helping managers make informed decisions regarding budgets, cost-benefit analyses, and funding requirements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business administration, Applied economics, Accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of 0-3 years of relevant experience in finance or accounting.
- Good knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciliations.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting/financial software.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with good attention to detail.
- Ability to manage financial records and handle confidential information responsibly.
- Good understanding of statutory and regulatory financial requirements.
- Ability to identify financial discrepancies, risks, and control issues.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Professional accounting certification such as ICAN or ACCA is an added advantage.
