Job Description:

We are seeking a highly principled and strategic Legal and Compliance Manager to lead our legal department and safeguard the organization’s integrity. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all legal matters and ensuring that the company operates in full alignment with local and international regulations, as well as internal policies. You will serve as a key advisor to senior management, providing the legal framework necessary to support business growth while mitigating operational and regulatory risks.

The ideal candidate is an expert in corporate governance who can foster a culture of ethics and maintain a robust compliance infrastructure in an evolving legislative landscape.

Requirements:

 

Legal Advisory & Contract Management

  • Strategic Guidance: Provide expert legal advice to management on business operations, complex contracts, and regulatory issues.

  • Drafting & Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts, agreements, and legal instruments to protect the company's interests.

  • External Liaison: Manage relationships with external legal counsel, ensuring high-quality representation and cost-effective service delivery.

Compliance & Risk Mitigation

  • Program Development: Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive compliance programs that adhere to both local and international regulatory requirements.

  • Risk Oversight: Identify potential legal and regulatory risks across the organization, maintaining a dynamic risk register and recommending mitigation strategies.

  • Auditing: Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and ensure operational adherence.

Corporate Governance & Regulatory Affairs

  • Governance Standards: Ensure the organization meets all corporate governance standards and best practices, providing direct support to the Board and management.

  • Statutory Filings: Maintain all statutory records and ensure the timely submission of filings to relevant authorities.

  • Regulatory Interface: Act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies, ensuring timely reporting and monitoring legislative changes that may impact the business.

Ethics & Internal Investigations

  • Culture of Integrity: Conduct organization-wide compliance training to promote a culture of transparency, ethics, and integrity.

  • Breach Management: Lead internal investigations into compliance breaches and prepare detailed reports for senior management and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and call to the Nigerian Bar (BL). A Master’s degree (LLM) or relevant professional certification is an advantage.

  • Experience:

    • Proven experience in a legal and compliance management role, preferably within a highly regulated industry.

    • Strong background in drafting complex legal documents and managing corporate governance.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Deep knowledge of local and international laws and regulatory frameworks.

    • Familiarity with compliance auditing techniques and risk management software.

  • Core Competencies:

    • Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex legislation and apply it to business operations.

    • Ethics: Unwavering commitment to integrity and ethical business practices.

    • Communication: Strong negotiation skills and the ability to simplify legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders.

Salary

N400,000 - N500,000 monthly.
