Job Description:

We are seeking a technically rigorous and detail-oriented Laboratory Scientist to join our clinical team in Rumodumanya, Port Harcourt. In a modern healthcare environment, success is defined by "Diagnostic Fidelity", the ability to deliver rapid, high-accuracy test results that form the backbone of clinical decision-making. This role is designed for a "Medical Analyst" with 1–3 years of experience who can blend "Technical Proficiency" with the "Analytical Discipline" required to maintain a zero-error diagnostic environment.

Your mission is to ensure "Seamless Laboratory Operations and Quality Assurance." Reporting directly to the Head of Laboratory, you will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of clinical specimens, equipment calibration, and the maintenance of rigorous safety protocols. Requirements:

1. Diagnostic Execution & Specimen Governance

  • Analytical Precision: Conduct a wide range of clinical laboratory tests (Hematology, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology, etc.) with absolute accuracy and speed.

  • Specimen Management: Oversee the proper collection, labeling, and processing of patient samples to prevent cross-contamination or pre-analytical errors.

  • Results Validation: Review and interpret test data, ensuring all reported results align with established clinical reference ranges before final release.

2. Quality Control & Equipment Stewardship

  • Calibration Mastery: Perform daily calibration and routine maintenance of laboratory analyzers and equipment to ensure peak performance.

  • QA/QC Monitoring: Implement and document internal quality control measures and participate in external quality assurance programs to maintain laboratory accreditation standards.

  • Inventory Control: Monitor the consumption of reagents and laboratory consumables, ensuring timely requisition to prevent downtime in service delivery.

3. Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Biohazard Safety: Strictly adhere to universal safety precautions and waste management protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and patients.

  • Record Integrity: Maintain high-fidelity electronic and physical records of all tests, quality control logs, and equipment maintenance schedules.

  • Collaborative Care: Liaise with clinicians and nursing staff to provide technical clarity on test results, supporting a holistic approach to patient care.

Qualifications and Skills:

Professional Profile

  • Education: Minimum of B.Sc or HND in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent relevant qualification).

  • Licensure: Must possess a valid license to practice as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Nigeria.

  • Experience: 1–3 years of active clinical laboratory experience.

  • Location: Must be resident in or able to commute easily to Rumodumanya/Obio-Akpor, Port Harcourt.

Core Competencies

  • Technical Grit: Proficiency in operating modern automated laboratory equipment and manual testing techniques.

  • Attention to Detail: A "Zero-Error" mindset when handling patient data and clinical samples.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to troubleshoot instrument errors and identify anomalous test results.
