Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Lab Manager / Technician to lead our laboratory operations in Rivers State. This role is critical to ensuring the technical integrity of our chemical analyses and the safety of our laboratory environment. You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of testing protocols for crude oil, drilling fluids, and industrial water, while maintaining strict adherence to international quality and safety standards.
The ideal candidate is a technical leader with a deep understanding of ASTM and API standards and a proven track record of managing high-volume laboratory environments in the upstream or downstream sectors.
Requirements:
Operational Leadership & Technical Oversight
Workflow Management: Oversee daily laboratory operations, including the strategic scheduling of tests, sample processing, and final reporting.
Technical Analysis: Ensure the precise analysis of a variety of samples, including crude oil assays, drilling fluids, water, and industrial chemicals.
Result Validation: Review and approve all laboratory test results and reports, ensuring they meet the highest standards of accuracy before dissemination.
Staff Development: Supervise and mentor laboratory staff, providing hands-on training and conducting performance evaluations to maintain a high-performance team.
Quality, Compliance & Standards
QA/QC Systems: Implement and maintain robust Quality Control and Quality Assurance (QA/QC) systems to ensure repeatable and reliable data.
Regulatory Alignment: Ensure all laboratory activities comply with industry-specific standards and regulatory requirements, specifically ISO and API guidelines.
Accreditation Support: Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support audits or inspections, with a focus on maintaining ISO 17025 standards.
Facility & Inventory Management
Asset Maintenance: Manage the maintenance and calibration of all laboratory equipment to ensure optimal functionality and minimize downtime.
Resource Management: Oversee the inventory of chemicals, reagents, and laboratory consumables, ensuring a steady supply for ongoing operations.
Safety Enforcement: Implement and enforce strict Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and safe laboratory practices to mitigate operational risks.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related science field.
Experience:
5–10+ years of professional laboratory experience specifically within an oil & gas, petrochemical, or industrial setting.
Proven experience in a supervisory or management capacity within a laboratory.
Technical Skills:
Advanced knowledge of laboratory testing methods, specifically ASTM and API standards.
Familiarity with crude assay, fluid testing, and water analysis protocols.
Experience with ISO 17025 or similar laboratory accreditation frameworks is highly preferred.
