Job Description:
Save the Children Nigeria is seeking a dynamic, highly organized Head of Business Development to join our global team. You will be the primary driver of our funding strategy, ensuring the successful pursuit of new resources to improve the lives of children across Nigeria.
You will lead a multi-divisional team to design high-quality, competitive proposals. From intelligence gathering and pre-positioning to the final submission of multi-million dollar bids, your leadership will directly impact our program’s reach and impact.
Requirements:
1. Strategic Leadership & Funding Strategy
Donor Engagement: Lead the development of the Country Funding Strategy and Donor Engagement Plan.
Innovation: Explore social venture initiatives and non-traditional funding channels to diversify the Country Office’s portfolio.
Collaboration: Partner with the Senior Management Team (SMT) to ensure all funding aligns with the Country Strategy Plan and geographic priorities.
2. Proposal Development & Quality Control
Bid Management: Lead the design and submission of high-value, complex proposals for bilateral, multilateral, and corporate donors.
Compliance: Interface with HR, Finance, and Supply Chain teams to ensure proposal budgets are accurate, integrated, and compliant with donor guidelines.
Safeguarding: Ensure every proposal includes detailed Child Safeguarding narratives and adequate budgeting for safeguarding activities.
3. Business Analysis & Intelligence
Market Mapping: Identify and track upcoming funding opportunities through advance intelligence gathering and partner relationship management.
Partnerships: Proactively research and cultivate relationships with foundations, high-net-worth individuals, and private sector entities.
Performance Tracking: Monitor the proposal pipeline and "win rates," keeping the executive team informed of trends and risks.
4. People Management & Mentoring
Team Leadership: Directly manage three staff members (BD Manager, BD Coordinator, and Costing Specialist).
Capacity Building: Strengthen staff ability to respond to strategic opportunities through formal training and the creation of BD tools.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, International Development, or a related field (Mandatory).
Experience: * 8–10 years in international development.
At least 5 years of proven success in proposal development for major institutional donors (e.g., USAID, EU, FCDO, UN).
Proven experience managing small, high-performance teams.
Technical Skills: * Exceptional writing, editing, formatting, and negotiation skills.
Mastery of technical and cost proposal components (Budget spreadsheets and narratives).
Attributes: * Ability to coordinate multiple complex projects simultaneously under pressure.
Willingness to travel to state offices (up to 20% of the time).
Preference for candidates with overseas field experience.
