About Company:
Petrogap Oil and Gas Limited was incorporated as a response to the emerging trends in the dynamic Oil & Gas industry. We are a wholly indigenous company and registered player in the Upstream, Midstream and Downstream sectors of the Oil & Gas industry.
Job Description:
We are seeking a high-precision, detail-oriented Tax & Audit Accountant to safeguard our financial integrity and ensure 100% regulatory compliance. In the complex landscape of oil servicing, managing tax liabilities is not just about filing; it’s about strategic planning and rigorous process optimization.
As our Tax lead, you will be the primary liaison with tax authorities (FIRS/LIRS), managing everything from VAT and CIT to complex WHT reconciliations and industry-specific tax audits. If you are a certified professional (ICAN/ACCA) with a deep understanding of Nigerian tax laws and a passion for financial accuracy, this is your opportunity to lead a critical finance function.
Requirements:
1. End-to-End Tax Compliance & Filing
Statutory Returns: Lead the accurate preparation, review, and timely filing of all monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns, including Company Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WHT), and PAYE.
Regulatory Stewardship: Monitor evolving Nigerian tax laws and FIRS/LIRS guidelines to ensure the organization remains ahead of regulatory changes and avoids penalties.
Financial Reporting: Integrate tax entries into monthly financial statements, ensuring that all tax provisions and liabilities are accurately reflected in line with IFRS.
2. Audit Management & Liaison
Audit Defense: Serve as the principal point of contact for external tax auditors and government investigators, managing the end-to-end reconciliation process.
Investigation Management: Lead the preparation of evidence files and documentation for tax audits, ensuring all claims and deductions are fully defensible.
Record Integrity: Maintain a "gold-standard" digital and physical filing system for all tax records, certificates, and correspondence.
3. Strategic Tax Planning & Advisory
Liability Optimization: Advise senior management on legal tax planning strategies and capital allowance claims to minimize liabilities within the framework of Nigerian law.
Process Automation: Utilize accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, or QuickBooks) to automate tax computations and improve reporting efficiency.
Risk Assessment: Conduct periodic internal tax health checks to identify potential exposure areas before they become audit issues.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Minimum of a 2:2 Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Certification: Mandatory ICAN or ACCA certification (Full membership).
Experience: 2–3 years of demonstrable experience as a Tax and Audit Accountant. Experience within the Oil Servicing or Energy sector is highly preferred.
Technical IQ: Strong proficiency in Sage, SAP, or QuickBooks and advanced Excel skills for complex reconciliations.
Core Competencies
Legal Mastery: Deep, up-to-date knowledge of the Finance Act and Nigerian tax processes (FIRS/LIRS).
Analytical Grit: Ability to identify discrepancies in large datasets and reconcile complex WHT credit notes.
Communication: Exceptional ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with tax officials and internal stakeholders.
