Job Description:
We are seeking a high-performing Import Operations and Logistics Officer to anchor our supply chain activities in Apapa, Lagos. This is a mission-critical role for a professional who thrives in the high-stakes environment of international trade and port operations.
Your mandate is to manage the end-to-end import lifecycle—moving goods from the Proforma Invoice stage to final warehouse delivery. You will navigate the regulatory landscapes of Customs, NAFDAC, and SON, ensuring every shipment is compliant, cost-effective, and on schedule. If you possess 4+ years of experience, advanced Excel skills, and the "grit" to manage clearing agents and shipping lines under pressure, we invite you to drive our logistics operations.
Requirements:
1. Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
Trade Instruments: Initiate and manage critical import documents, including Form M, Letters of Credit (L/C), and Marine Insurance.
Certification Governance: Liaise with regulatory bodies to secure PAAR, SONCAP, and NAFDAC approvals, ensuring zero-defect compliance with Nigerian trade laws.
Bank Liaison: Coordinate with financial institutions to ensure timely processing of shipping documents and duty payments.
2. Shipment Tracking & Port Operations
Visibility & Reporting: Track global shipments in real-time, providing daily status updates and comprehensive weekly import position reports to management.
Customs & Clearing: Supervise clearing agents and shipping lines to fast-track customs examinations and terminal releases.
Logistics Execution: Prepare accurate clearing cost estimates and coordinate the payment of duties, terminal charges, and transportation fees.
3. Delivery & Financial Reconciliation
Last-Mile Coordination: Manage transporters to ensure timely delivery to the final destination and oversee the prompt return of empty containers to avoid demurrage.
File Closure: Maintain a rigorous filing system, ensuring all shipment folders are closed with complete documentation and cost reconciliations.
Digital Agility: Utilize Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables) for cost analysis and remain available to support operations remotely via smartphone when required.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Experience: Minimum of 4 years in specialized Import Operations or Logistics.
Technical IQ: Deep knowledge of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) procedures, port operations, and banking trade instruments.
Software Mastery: Proficiency in MS Office, with Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables) being a mandatory requirement for data analysis.
Communication: Exceptional email writing and coordination skills to manage international vendors and local stakeholders.
Core Competencies
Operational Grit: Ability to work under intense pressure in the Apapa logistics hub.
Multitasking: Proven capability to manage multiple high-value shipments simultaneously without oversight.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to calculate duties and logistics costs accurately.
