Job Description:
We are seeking a distinguished and highly experienced Director of Administration to serve as the administrative cornerstone of the hospital. Reporting directly to the Medical Director, you will function as the Chief Administrative Adviser and the Secretary to the Board of Management.
This is a high-level leadership role requiring an expert in public service administration. You will be responsible for the seamless integration of support departments, the formulation of institutional policies, and the preservation of official records. The ideal candidate is a seasoned director with at least 20 years of cognate experience in the government administrative cadre, possessing the gravitas to advise the Board and the technical acumen to modernize hospital operations.
Requirements:
1. Board Governance & Strategic Advising
Secretariat Leadership: Act as the Secretary to the Board of Management, conducting all official correspondence and ensuring precise record-keeping for the institution.
Chief Advisor: Provide high-level administrative counsel to the Medical Director, ensuring all decisions align with Civil Service Rules and hospital bylaws.
Policy Lifecycle: Lead the formulation, execution, and periodic review of institutional policies to improve service delivery and administrative efficiency.
2. Operational Coordination & Support Services
Departmental Synergy: Coordinate the activities of all non-clinical support departments (HR, Finance, Works, and Logistics) to ensure a unified approach to hospital management.
Administrative Oversight: Manage the day-to-day general administration of the hospital, ensuring that support services are optimized to assist the clinical teams.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all hospital operations remain compliant with the Public Service salary structure and relevant government establishment regulations.
3. Institutional Integrity & ICT Modernization
Records Management: Oversee the integrity and confidentiality of the hospital's central records and archives.
ICT Integration: Champion ICT-compliant processes to transition traditional administrative workflows into modern, digital systems for better data tracking and reporting.
Executive Liaison: Represent the Board or the Medical Director in external engagements and perform delegated high-priority assignments.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: First Degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, or Hospital/Health Services Management from a recognized University.
Advanced Education: A Master’s Degree or relevant higher degree is a significant advantage.
Experience: Minimum of twenty (20) years post-qualification cognate experience in the Administrative cadre within a government establishment.
Rank: Candidates must currently be at or above the Directorate level in a government establishment.
Professional Standing & Skills
Professional Affiliation: Fellow or Associate of the Institute of Health Administrators of Nigeria (IHAN) or an equivalent professional body.
Digital Literacy: Must be fully ICT compliant.
Sector Expertise: Prior working experience within a hospital environment is a distinct advantage.
