Job Description:
Afripoint Group Limited is seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Administrator to serve as the custodian of our data ecosystem. In this mission-critical role, you will be responsible for the architecture, security, and optimization of the databases that power our business-critical systems.
We are looking for a specialist who moves beyond routine maintenance to focus on high availability, proactive performance tuning, and robust disaster recovery. You will bridge the gap between development and operations, ensuring that our data infrastructure is not only secure and compliant but also scaled for high-performance growth. Requirements:
1. Infrastructure Management & High Availability
Deployment & Configuration: Lead the installation, configuration, and proactive monitoring of diverse database platforms to ensure 24/7 system availability.
Resilience Strategy: Execute rigorous database backup, recovery, and replication protocols to mitigate risk and ensure zero data loss during unforeseen outages.
Cloud & Hybrid Integration: Support the evolution of our data stack across on-premise and cloud environments (AWS/Azure).
2. Performance Engineering & Optimization
Query & Index Tuning: Analyze execution plans and optimize complex SQL queries and indexing strategies to reduce latency and improve application response times.
Resource Management: Monitor system health, identifying bottlenecks in CPU, memory, and I/O to ensure peak database performance.
Scalability Planning: Work with DevOps to forecast data growth and implement partitioning or sharding strategies as needed.
3. Security, Integrity & Support
Data Governance: Implement strict access controls, encryption, and audit logging to protect sensitive company information and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
DevOps Collaboration: Provide technical guidance to development teams on schema design, migration scripts, and database best practices.
Root Cause Analysis: Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex database-related incidents, providing detailed documentation and long-term resolutions.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in a high-stakes environment.
Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of SQL and multiple platforms (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle).
System IQ: Strong familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting for automation.
Certifications (Added Advantage):
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator
AWS Certified Database – Specialty
Core Competencies
Analytical Precision: Exceptional troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to performance tuning.
Documentation Rigor: Ability to maintain clear, technical documentation for disaster recovery and system architectures.
