Job Description:
We are seeking a high-caliber Chief Operating Officer (COO) to serve as the operational heartbeat of our hospital. In a clinical environment, the COO's role is critical: you are the architect who translates medical strategy and the CEO’s vision into the daily reality of patient care and hospital efficiency.
You will lead the integration of medical, laboratory, and administrative departments, ensuring that our "people-first" mission is backed by scalable systems and rigorous Medico-legal compliance. If you are a strategic leader capable of managing complex cross-functional teams while fostering a culture of accountability and high performance, we want you to drive our operational excellence.
Requirements:
1. Strategic Transformation & Execution
Strategy-to-Action: Partner with the CEO to set organizational vision and translate high-level strategy into actionable operational plans with defined KPIs.
Growth Architecture: Design the roadmap for hospital expansion and service improvement, ensuring that every operational shift aligns with long-term growth objectives.
Performance Monitoring: Recommend and implement data-driven improvements to maximize hospital performance and patient outcomes.
2. Clinical & Operational Governance
Cross-Functional Leadership: Oversee the daily operations of diverse units, including Clinical Services (Doctors), Medical Laboratories, and Administrative staff.
Process Optimization: Develop and implement scalable systems and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maximize hospital efficiency and productivity.
Integrated Healthcare Delivery: Lead high-impact projects that require seamless coordination between medical departments and support functions.
3. People, Culture, and Succession
Performance Culture: Foster an accountable, innovation-driven environment where high performance and continuous improvement are the standard.
Talent Development: Lead succession planning and talent acquisition strategies to ensure the hospital retains top-tier medical and administrative talent.
Mission Alignment: Ensure that employee engagement initiatives are deeply rooted in the hospital’s core values and patient-care mission.
4. Risk, Compliance & Medico-Legal Integrity
Regulatory Stewardship: Ensure 100% Medico-legal compliance across all departments, adhering to both national and local medical regulations.
Proactive Risk Management: Implement robust internal controls and policies to mitigate clinical and organizational risks.
Crisis Governance: Develop and maintain comprehensive business continuity and crisis management plans to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Experience: Proven senior leadership experience in a hospital or complex healthcare setting.
Strategic Acumen: Demonstrated ability to manage P&L, optimize budgets, and lead large-scale operational shifts.
Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of Nigerian medical laws, healthcare standards, and labor regulations.
Core Competencies
Operational Command: Ability to lead doctors, specialists, and administrative teams with authority and empathy.
Systems Thinking: A knack for identifying process bottlenecks and designing scalable technological or procedural solutions.
Crisis Leadership: Calm, decisive judgment under pressure, particularly in medical or operational emergencies.
Stakeholder Influence: Strong interpersonal skills to align the CEO’s vision with the board’s expectations and the staff’s execution.
