About Company:
International Alert was founded in 1986 to help people find peaceful solutions to conflict. At that time, the number of conflicts between countries was decreasing, but there was an alarming increase in the number of conflicts within countries.
Job Description:
International Alert is seeking a highly skilled and resilient Senior Project Officer to lead the strategic implementation of our peacebuilding, governance, and climate change portfolio in Sokoto or Benue State. In regions marked by complex security dynamics and environmental stressors, success is defined by the ability to navigate local sensitivities while delivering measurable impact. This role is designed for a "Peacebuilding Architect", a professional with at least 4 years of NGO experience who can blend technical project management with the diplomatic grit required to oversee local partners and engage government stakeholders.
Your mission is to ensure "High-Quality Program Delivery and Sustainable Peace Outcomes." You will be the operational anchor for the project: responsible for tracking milestones, providing technical capacity building to partners, and ensuring every activity is conflict-sensitive and gender-responsive. If you possess "Field Resilience" and the analytical depth to translate complex community data into compelling "stories of change," we want you to drive our mission forward.
Requirements:
1. Effective Program Implementation & Technical Stewardship
Activity Orchestration: Lead the planning and execution of project activities in strict alignment with donor requirements and International Alert’s peacebuilding frameworks.
Narrative Excellence: Take full ownership of reporting, from drafting rigorous narrative progress reports to compiling case studies and "stories of change" that capture the project’s human impact.
Technical Mentorship: Provide ongoing technical support to implementing partners, assisting them in adapting tools for data collection and strengthening their capacity for effective field delivery.
2. Monitoring, Evaluation & Adaptive Management
Rigorous Tracking: Design and implement project monitoring plans to ensure outcomes are achieved on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.
Data Intelligence: Source, collate, and analyze field data to identify emerging trends or risks, utilizing these insights to recommend remedial measures and inform executive decision-making.
Financial Oversight: Monitor project expenditures in collaboration with the finance team, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently and fund requests are submitted with precision.
3. Partnership Coordination & Stakeholder Diplomacy
Compliance Governance: Ensure all local partners comply with Alert’s and donors’ administrative, financial, and logistical procedures, as well as relevant Nigerian laws.
Government Liaison: Facilitate and support implementing partners in engaging effectively with state and community-level government stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Participatory Engagement: Coordinate activities using a community-driven approach to ensure local ownership and long-term sustainability of peacebuilding initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Peace and Conflict Transformation, Project Management, or a related Social Science field.
Experience: Minimum of 4 years of project management experience within an NGO, specifically implementing peacebuilding programs in Northern Nigeria.
Contextual Expertise: Deep understanding of the political, social, and environmental drivers of conflict in the Nigerian Middle Belt or Northwest.
Core Competencies
Analytical Grit: Proven ability to analyze complex data sets and translate them into coherent reports and strategic follow-up actions.
Communication Mastery: Fluency in English (written and spoken) with high sensitivity in cross-cultural communication. Hausa fluency is a significant advantage.
Field Resilience: MANDATORY—Willingness and ability to travel frequently to remote and potentially insecure project locations.
