Job Description:

Our client is seeking a formidable industry leader to assume full operational and commercial command of a national interstate passenger transport business. This is not a role for a career administrator; it is a mission for a battle-tested executive who has already mastered the complexities of Nigeria’s top-tier transport sector.

As General Manager, you will be the primary custodian of nationwide interstate operations. You are being brought in to turn operational discipline into aggressive revenue growth, eliminate leakages, and scale a high-volume fleet under the highest standards of safety and reliability. If you have not successfully steered the operations of one of Nigeria’s "Big Six" transport giants, this role is not for you.

Requirements:

1. Fleet Excellence & Route Profitability

• Command & Control: Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of nationwide interstate operations, ensuring that every terminal and every route functions as a profit center.

• Performance Engineering: Drive fleet availability and reliability by implementing rigorous maintenance schedules and fuel management systems to eliminate revenue leakage.

• Route Strategy: Analyze market demand to optimize route scheduling and load factors, maximizing yield in a margin-sensitive environment.

2. Regulatory Governance & Safety Leadership

• External Affairs: Manage complex relationships with regulators, transport unions, security agencies, and strategic local partners to ensure zero operational downtime.

• Safety Protocols: Enforce uncompromising safety and compliance standards across all terminals and interstate corridors, protecting the brand’s integrity and passenger lives.

• Risk Mitigation: Develop and lead crisis management protocols for a multi-location, high-volume operational network.

3. Commercial Turnaround & Scale

• Data-Driven Growth: Use operational data to identify inefficiencies and underperformance, converting technical discipline into measurable bottom-line growth.

• Team Performance: Lead and mentor senior management teams, holding them accountable to clear, aggressive KPIs under Board and investor oversight.

• Change Management: Design and execute turnaround strategies or rapid scale-ups, modernizing legacy processes through technology and process innovation.

Qualifications and Skills:

The "Top Six" Experience

• The Threshold: You must have served as Head of Operations (or equivalent) within one of Nigeria’s top six interstate passenger transport companies.

• The Scope: Proven experience managing large fleets, multiple terminals, and thousands of daily passengers across a nationwide network.

Professional Profile

• Experience: 10–15+ years of progressive leadership within large-scale passenger transport.

• Technical IQ: Deep, practical knowledge of Nigerian transport regulations, union dynamics, and interstate operating realities.

• Commercial Grit: Strong financial discipline with a track record of managing multi-billion Naira operational budgets.

• Education: Relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree; professional certifications in logistics or transport management are an added advantage.
