Job Description:
We are seeking a visionary and high-stakes Managing Director to provide overall leadership and technical direction for a large-scale, innovative education program. Your mission is to democratize the right for all children to succeed by building a sustainable, cost-effective education model that creates immediate and lasting change.
This is a highly hands-on role involving intense program management, financial oversight, supply chain logistics, and school operations. You will lead a lean but high-impact team to execute a complex contract, ensuring that vision translates into measurable results for children and capacity building for government duty-bearers.
Requirements:
1. Strategic Leadership & Stakeholder Diplomacy
Government Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for the Ministry of Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), navigating complex political landscapes with maturity and confidence.
Vision Alignment: Ensure an integrated vision across different program components, functions, and stakeholders (donors, private sector, and local communities).
High-Level Representation: Maintain a professional reputation and access key contacts within regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth program implementation.
2. Operational Excellence & Financial Stewardship
Budget Governance: Act as the senior General Manager with total accountability for on- or under-budget delivery of all program aspects.
Complex Program Management: Oversee the day-to-day coordination of multifaceted functions, including supply chain, financial management, and field-based school operations.
Quality Control: Ensure the technical and methodological soundness of all activities, adjusting operations in real-time to fit program requirements and mitigate risks.
3. Team Development & Capacity Building
Capacity Strengthening: Lead efforts to build the capacity of the Ministry of Education and devolved structures to realize long-term education strategic plans.
Performance Culture: Supervise professional and support staff, fostering a learning environment where leadership, humility, and self-awareness are prioritized.
Design Thinking: Apply process and system design to oversee large-scale school system transformation, ensuring solutions are scalable and sustainable.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Bachelor’s degree essential; MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
Project Management: 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in project design and management in developing countries.
Leadership: 5+ years of direct management experience, including supervision of multi-faceted teams and field-based roles.
Operational Track Record: Proven success in lead roles within fast-paced, high-growth, and metric-driven organizations.
Core Competencies
Diplomatic Finesse: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high-ranking government officials and international donors.
Technical Breadth: Knowledge covering financial management, supply chain, and government relations.
