Job Description:
We are seeking a technically rigorous and disciplined Fiber Splicing Engineer to join our infrastructure team in Lagos. In the high-capacity data sector, success is defined by "Link Fidelity", the ability to execute near-zero-loss splices and maintain complex optical networks under demanding field conditions. This role is designed for a "Splicing Specialist" with 2+ years of experience who can blend "Manual Precision" with the "Diagnostic Grit" required for OTDR testing and site troubleshooting.
Your mission is to ensure "Zero-Interruption Connectivity and Structural Quality." You will be the primary steward of our physical fiber layer: responsible for cable preparation, closure installation, and the critical cut-over of live services. If you possess "Optical Mastery," proficiency in Fusion Splicing, and a strict adherence to EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) standards, we want you to drive our engineering excellence.
Requirements:
1. Fusion Splicing & Fiber Management
Optical Integration: Perform high-precision splicing on both single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables, ensuring that every joint meets stringent decibel (dB) loss standards.
Cable Stewardship: Expertly prepare fiber cables, manage individual strands within trays, and install protective closures and patch panels to safeguard the network.
Standardization: Ensure that all installation and splicing work complies with international telecom standards and project-specific engineering blueprints.
2. Diagnostic Testing & Commissioning
OTDR Analysis: Conduct comprehensive Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) and optical power meter testing to validate link performance and identify faults.
Link Validation: Interpret test results to provide high-fidelity reports, documenting splice loss, reflectance, and end-to-end attenuation.
On-Site Troubleshooting: Support active site installations and cut-over activities, providing rapid-response diagnostics to resolve network outages or signal degradation.
3. Site Governance & EHS Compliance
Safety Stewardship: Follow all site safety and EHS rules religiously, ensuring a zero-accident environment during high-risk fiber construction activities.
Record Integrity: Maintain meticulous work records, including fiber maps, splicing charts, and site progress reports.
Operational Agility: Work collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating the flexibility to handle on-site challenges and project-driven overtime requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Minimum of a Diploma or above in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related technical field.
Experience: 2+ years of progressive experience in fiber splicing or fiber optic construction. (Experience on major Telecom Operator projects is highly preferred).
Technical Mastery: Highly skilled in operating Fusion Splicers, OTDRs, OLTS, and other optical test tools.
Core Competencies
Precision Grit: Exceptional hand-eye coordination and attention to detail for handling microscopic fiber strands.
Analytical Prowess: Ability to read and interpret complex fiber cable structures and communication system designs.
Team Synergy: A proactive team player capable of working effectively under pressure in fast-paced operational environments.
