Job Description:

  • The chief of surgery plays a critical leadership role in overseeing surgical services within the hospital environment. 
  • This position combines clinical excellence with strategic oversight to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • The chief of surgery will lead multidisciplinary teams, foster collaboration across departments, and drive continuous improvement in surgical outcomes and operational efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Perform clinical duties as outlined in the approved clinical privilege form.
  • Lead the coordination, planning and strategic development of the hospital's surgery department.
  • Ensure that all surgical practice align with current clinical guidelines and uphold the highest standards of patient care.
  • Oversee and support the recruitment, onboarding and continuous professional development of surgeons across various specialties. 
  • Collaborate with department members and other clinical units to achieve and exceed set performance and quality targets.
  • Supervise the efficient use of operating theatres, ensuring optimal scheduling, safety, and resource utilization.
  • Provide supervisory and managerial oversight, including duty planning and surgeons' performance management. 
  • Promote interdepartmental collaboration with other specialties to support integrated, multidisciplinary care.  leadership guidance in the department and establish good working relationship with other department.
  • Act as a liaison between the surgery department and hospital leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant standard operating procedures and clinical protocols.
  • Lead and support quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs within the department.
  • Strategic growth and continuous improvement of the surgery department's services.
  • Consistently high standards of surgical care and clinical governance.
  • Enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration within the hospitals' multispecialty framework.
  • Increase in patient volumes through high quality service delivery and reputation building.
  • Effective promotion and marketing of the hospital's surgical services.
  • Ensuring safe and complication-free surgery across all facilities of the hospital.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • MBBS
  • Residency training in surgery from a recognized institution.
  • Valid medical practicing license.

Professional Qualification & Experience:

  • Fellowship of the National postgraduate medical college in general surgery or its equivalent.
  • 7-10 years post-residency experience.
